Dear Parents:

If your son or daughter wishes to study a String instrument, there are three choices: Violin- smallest member of the String family; Viola, the alto voice, a slightly bigger version of the violin; and ’Cello, the 3rd largest string instrument, played sitting.

Beginning Strings meets once each week in 45-minute class lessons on a rotating schedule (so that the same class is not missed each week) West Beginners meet every Monday, North Beginners every Friday. The program continues through Middle School and High School. 94% of the Strings students achieve high scores in academics and have distinguished the Town of Wilmington with concert tours of England, Italy, Ireland, France, and Quebec, and have been recognized by Sens. Kerry and Kennedy, Mayor Menino, Rep. Miceli, Town Manager Mr. Caira, and Gov. Romney. They have performed for the Mayors of Paris, Dublin, Huddersfield, England, and Quebec.

Strings is a family activity, with parents participating in every aspect of our goals through the Strings Attached Parent Support Group. Strings parents meet every 3rd Wednesday of the month, at 7:30 PM in the MS Library.

Beginners rent until late Middle School (when their arms reach full length), then buy. Rental instruments are available in several local music stores. Parents are free to choose. I will “size” your child during school in the next few days, or your local music store can measure and select the best size.
